James Gunn: Yondu is Never Coming Back to LIfe

Though he may have been fired for a while, Marvel Studios has brought James Gunn back to the helm of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. With dead characters usually coming back to life in comic book films, Gunn settles it once and for all when it comes to Yondu earning a  resurrection.

During an AMA on IG (via ComicBook), Gunn was asked by a fan about bringing Yondu back to life, to which he replied:

If any case, it’s kind of an indication that we’ll see him come back in the form of a flashback. With Quill’s mother being the source of the “Awesome Mix” for the past two films, it’s been rumored that the soundtrack for the third Guardians film is going to be inspired by Yondu this time around.

What kind of music does Yondu listen to? We have no idea, but with the Zune being manufactured in 2006, it’s very likely that we’ll be getting a whole new catalogue of music, not just from the 70s. What are the odds Peter Quill gets to jam to Nirvana? We know some fans on the internet have been asking Gunn to include Smash Mouth’s All Star to Awesome Mix Vol. 3.

For now, Gunn is hard at work with The Suicide Squad, but you can bet he’ll be working straight on Guardians when he’s done. After a hard online campaign to get it back, fans are just happy to have Gunn complete what he started with the MCU. Fingers crossed it doesn’t end up like The Rise of Skywalker.

No release date has been set for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but the movie is aiming to hit theaters sometime in 2022.
