With Westworld 4 ending next week, HBO can now fully gear up for the premiere of House of the Dragon. The series just got a new featurette, and it gives us a good look at the main Targaryen players of the Game of Thrones spinoff.
Watch the new featurette for House of the Dragon:
Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, and more cast and crew discuss how House of the Dragon takes place during the height of the Targaryen reign over Westeros, and how that influenced the story and design of the series.
Though the series does have King Viserys sitting on the Iron Throne at the start, the Targaryen Civil War a.k.a. the Dance of Dragons is said to be between Viserys’ successors Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen. While Rhaenyra feels a lot like Daenerys in that she wants to break the gender norms that were prevalent at the time, it seems that Daemon is being set up to be the primary antagonist of the series.
Then again, this is Game of Thrones, so we should be expecting some morally grey characters in the show. I mean, sure Cersei Lannister was a cruel woman, but who couldn’t relate to how fiercely she would defend her children. Even a likeable character like Tyrion is able to strangle a woman with his bare hands.
With Thrones considered to have ended poorly, a lot of people are hoping that HOTD manages to bring back a renewed interest in the lore of Westeros.
Catch House of the Dragon when it premieres on HBO Max this Aug. 21.
