The internet went crazy today after The Hollywood Reporter said that Henry Cavill was no longer playing the part of Superman in the DCEU, but now Cavill himself as well as his manager shed a little light on the subject, and it seems that Cavill has not lost the role yet completely.
Cavill just posted this on Instagram:
We don’t really know what it means yet, but with the Superman toy and the Krypton shirt, he could be saying that he’s still attached to playing Superman. If you look at the comment section, it’s full of pleas for him to stay onboard as the character.
Earlier today, Cavill’s manager Dany Garcia said this after the rumors started coming out that Cavill had stepped down from the Superman role:
Be peaceful, the cape is still in his closet. @wbpictures has been and continues to be our partners as they evolve the DC Universe. Anticipate a WB statement later today.

When THR reported on the subject, it was never implied that Cavill leaving was official. It was just said that the talks with Cavill to reprise the role were not going well, and that he couldn’t make his cameo in Shazam! due to a scheduling conflict. At least now, we have a bit of consolation from Cavill himself.
If anything, we might have to wait a while before we get to see another Superman movie. WB is said to be focusing a Supergirl film this time around. Hopefully Cavill will still be onboard long enough to give his Man of Steel a proper sendoff.
So far, reactions of Cavill’s exit have lead to an outcry to try and keep him in the role. A lot of heat is going onto WB for making the decision, and some are even considering boycotting Aquaman and Shazam! just so Cavill would be kept in the DCEU.
Hopefully WB comes out with an official statement soon that clarifies Cavill’s place in the DCEU. I’m crossing my fingers that he’s here to stay.
