Out of all of Hasbro’s toy films, it seems that Transformers is the only one that has managed to keep going. We haven’t gotten a GI Joe films since 2013, but it looks like Allspark Pictures wants to bring the franchise back with a spinoff.

As per The Wrap, Hasbro is looking to make the movie Snake Eyes centered on the silent assassin who works with the Joes. The movie is said to be looking at Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding for the role; the actor is said to be currently in talks, but we have no details on whether we’re going to see any other Joes or villains in the film.

If anything, we should at least expect Storm Shadow to appear, seeing as the two are rivals in the franchise.

Originally, the part of Snake Eyes was played by Ray Park (Darth Maul from Star Wars), and he was one of the few actors to come back for GI Joe: Retaliation. With Golding landing the role though, it seems that Allspark is pulling another Bumblebee and will make a prequel that reboots the franchise. The original films showed Snake Eyes as a Caucasian, so having him recast with an Asian actor is likely a sign that they are starting with a clean slate.

Hopefully this time they can manage to keep a GI Joe franchise that sticks.

Snake Eyes is set for a release on Oct. 16, 2020.
