Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss became the collective enemy of the internet after the final season of the show, and a lot of fans were ready to have them face the music come SDCC 2019 during the GoT panel. Too bad though, because Benioff and Weiss aren’t going to be in attendance.

The official Game of Thrones account had posted the upcoming panelists on Twitter with the showrunners having no mention:

The sit io9 then decided to contact HBO to see about the change, and it was said that it was due to “production and scheduling conflicts.” Besides Benioff and Weiss, director Miguel Sapochnik and actors Iain Glen and Nathalie Emmanuel had to cancel their appearances as well.

If you ask me, the panel is kind of missing some series heavy hitters like Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington, but I can imagine that it would be a nightmare for them to come to an event swarming with people who know who they are. With this being the first panel to take place after the show you think they could book other actors like Peter Dinklage, Lena Heady, or Sophie Turner.

Then again, I have a feeling that there are some surprise guests that the panel isn’t announcing. I mean, this is a Hall H presentation after all. HBO better bring their A-game.

The Game of Thrones panel at SDCC 2019 takes place on July 19.
