Encanto was one of the biggest musical hits of the year for Disney, and Disney+ just released the live Encanto at the Hollywood Bowl which brought together all the original voices from the film to perform the songs live.
Just in, they released the Family Madrigal number which has Stephanie Beatriz introducing everyone in the cast. Watch this:
Admittedly the live performances can’t be as snappy and intricate as the animated sequences, but you have to hand it to the production with its completely lit floors and use of props. Even the We Don’t Talk about Bruno number has a seven-foot-frame Bruno puppet that helps add the atmosphere to the song.
For now, it seems that the live play is the only spinoff we have for Encanto, but like Frozen II, I’m hoping they find a new story for Mirabel and her family soon.
Here’s the official description for Encanto:
Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Encanto” tells the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia, in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal—every child except one, Mirabel (voice of Stephanie Beatriz). But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family’s last hope.
Encanto and Encanto at the Hollywood Bowl are now streaming on Disney+.
