Deadpool and Korg Come Together to Promote the Release of ‘Free Guy’

After multiple delays due to COVID-19, 20th Century Studios’ Free Guy is finally coming out next month. Since Disney essentially owns the film as well as Marvel, they’ve decided to do a crossover between MCU’s Korg (Taika Waititi) and Fox’s Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) to promote the release.

Here’s Korg and Deadpool reacting to a trailer for Free Guy:

It’s great that the two characters can appear alongside each other as both Waititi and Reynolds are in Free Guy. They even have some fun meta banter with Deadpool commenting how Free Guy feels like a ‘last days of Fox Fire Sale’ kind of film, and asking Korg how to get into the MCU.

While fans are already freaking out about how this clip is Deadpool’s introduction to the MCU, I think it’s just some great brand synergy on Disney’s part—using characters from their more well-known properties to promote something new. No doubt they probably also predicted how fans would freak out seeing Deadpool interact with an MCU character.

I was already excited for the release of Free Guy when they teased it last year, so it’s great to see that the movie is finally going to come out next month. Director Shawn Levy has proven his mettle as a great family friendly director with films like Night at the Museum and Stranger Things, so I’m excited to see how he handles Free Guy.

In Twentieth Century Studios’ epic adventure-comedy “Free Guy,” a bank teller who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game, decides to become the hero of his own story…one he rewrites himself. Now in a world where there are no limits, he is determined to be the guy who saves his world his way…before it is too late.

Catch Free Guy when it comes out Aug. 13 in theaters.
