After a failed reboot in 2016, Sony has decided to go the reboot-sequel route for the Ghostbusters franchise, and the new film will be focusing on a younger cast that exists in the same continuity as the original films. The movie has confirmed to be bringing back classic cast members like Dan Aykroyd, but now another original Buster is said to be coming back.

Talking to The Greg Hill Show, Aykroyd has confirmed that Peter Venkman himself Bill Murray is going to be making an appearance in Ghostbusters 2020. Murray will be joining other original cast members including Annie Potts, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson, and Aykroyd himself.

I know he’s out of the public eye, but I would have loved to have Rick Moranis come back in one way or another. Though the main Ghostbusters are fun on their own, I thought the character of Louis Tully was the main source of comic relief for the film. Maybe the movie will have a way to introduce us to Tully’s family? It’s the same speculation that the main kids are actually descendants of Egon Spengler.

With Jason Reitman being a fun director on his own, I have no doubt that he’s going to bring something impressive with Ghostbusters 2020. Original director Ivan Reitman is also involved with the movie, and after the bombing of the sequel, I’m sure Sony wants to be extra careful when it comes to handling the property moving forward.

Ghostbusters 2020 is set for a release on July 2020.
