After the 2016 reboot kind of crashed and burned, Sony is set to go back to the original franchise timeline with Ghostbusters 2020. News has it that the movie has just wrapped production, and we have a photo of the cast shared by director Jason Reitman:

Wrapped! 68 days and still smiling. #GB20

The photo includes new main characters played by McKenna Grace, Finn Wolhard, and Carrie Coon. The photo also includes Logan Kim as well as original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman.

While we don’t have a look at them yet, the movie also includes the likes of Paul Rudd and Bokeem Woodbine. The film will also have appearances from the original Ghostbusters team including Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson, and Dan Aykrord. Bill Murray’s cameo is said to be rumored for now, and the main speculation is that the family will be descendants of Egon Spengler; Harold Ramis, who played Spengler in the original films, died back in 2014.

We don’t have an official plot for the film yet, but based on the teasers, it looks like these new characters will try to reinvigorate the Ghostbusters franchise (literally) in the film. I have a lot of faith in director Jason Reitman, and with the involvement of the original Reitman as the producer, hopefully we get a film that is a better follow-up than 2016’s Ghostbusters.

We don’t know when our first teaser is going to drop, but hopefully we get something before the year ends.

Catch Ghostbusters 2020 when it comes out July 10, 2020.
