Curb Your Enthusiasm’s J.B. Smoove Cast in Lead Role for Spider-Man: Far from Home

Spider-Man: Far from Home may have already started filming, but so far, the only new addition to the cast is Jake Gyllenhaal. Now news has dropped that someone else has been cast in a lead role.

As per Deadline, J.B. Smoove (Curb Your Enthusiasm) has been cast as a lead. We don’t have any details on who he is going to play, but the best guess is he’s going to be second fiddle to Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio. With Vulture from Homecoming having his own lackey of criminals (Tinkerer, two Shockers), I wouldn’t be surprised if Mysterio had his own posse.

If Smoove were to play a villain opposite Mysterio, I think he would work as Chameleon. With Mysterio’s speciality for special effects, it would make sense that he would work with someone who had a skill that was also a bit theatrical—and nothing’s more theatrical than impersonating other people.

Of course, I could be totally wrong, and Smoove could be playing a cop, or a teacher. Either way, the guy’s pretty hilarious in Curb, and I would love to see how he goes back and forth with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man—if he does, that is.

Spider-Man: Far from Home comes out July 5, 2019.
