#ContinueTheMonsterVerse Trends After Release of Godzilla vs. Kong

The Monsterverse films have been a mixed bag since Godzilla came out back in 2014, and though Godzilla vs. Kong was meant to mark the end of the franchise, it looks like fans want to see more of this modern Kaiju action.

As it turns out, #ContinueTheMonsterverse has been trending on Twitter with more than 30k tweets, and even the official Legendary Pictures account is sharing the hashtag:

While there hasn’t been any official sequel announced, the fact that the Legendary account is sharing it could be a hint that the studio is interested in doing more of these films. While the Monsterverse has kind of floundered until this entry, it’s at least doing better than another giant monster franchise—Pacific Rim.

Though a lot of fans were hoping for a Pacific Rim crossover down the line, there are several other kaiju monsters that have yet to get their chance in the spotlight. What about the giant turtle Gamera? I’m sure there are some fans who would love to watch Godzilla or Kong go head-to-head with a giant Ultraman.

While it’s too early to determine whether Legendary would greenlight a sequel, Godzilla vs. Kong is definitely keeping people excited for more of these films, and who knows? If #ReleaseTheSnyderCut can make things happen, why not #ContinueTheMonsterverse?

Kong and his protectors undertake a perilous journey to find his true home. Along for the ride is Jia, an orphaned girl who has a unique and powerful bond with the mighty beast. However, they soon find themselves in the path of an enraged Godzilla as he cuts a swath of destruction across the globe. The initial confrontation between the two titans — instigated by unseen forces — is only the beginning of the mystery that lies deep within the core of the planet.

For now, catch Godzilla vs. Kong now in select theaters and HBO Max.
