Brave New World: First Look at Alden Ehrenreich as John the Savage

We’ve been getting a lot of modern takes on classic books like The Handmaid’s Tale and Fahrenheit 451, and NBC is set to come up with a new series based on the 1932 classic Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. We haven’t gotten any official promos for the show yet, but some photos of Alden Ehrenreich’s John the Savage have somehow found their way online.

Check them out:

With Ehrenreich playing a loveable rogue in Solo: A Star Wars Story, I can’t help but think he’s going to be channeling that same energy with Brave New World. What’s interesting is, the character of John the Savage is also a foil to the main protagonist—much like how Han Solo was a foil to Luke Skywalker in Star Wars.

I think it’s also worth noting that Ehrenreich is wearing some orange headphones in the photos. Is this supposed to be an homage to Peter Quill from Guardians of the Galaxy? Heck he even has a long coat.

Though Solo ended up being the lowest-earning Star Wars movie from the Disney era, a lot of fans absolutely loved the film. If anything, it was the poor marketing that hurt the film (plus the box office competition in the form of Avengers: Infinity War). Ehrenreich was great in the film, and a lot of fans are hoping that Disney would greenlight a sequel soon. For now, I guess we can just enjoy Ehrenreich in Brave New World.

“Brave New World” imagines a utopian society that has achieved peace and stability through the prohibition of monogamy, privacy, money, family, and history itself. As citizens of New London, Bernard Marx and Lenina Crowne have only ever known a rigid social order, a perfect pharmaceutical called Soma, and a culture of instant gratification and ubiquitous sex. Curious to explore life beyond the strictures of their society, the two New Worlders embark on a vacation to the Savage Lands, where they become embroiled in a harrowing and violent rebellion. Bernard and Lenina are rescued by John the Savage (Ehrenreich), who escapes with them back to New London.

No release date has been announced for Brave New World, but the show is expected to debut sometime this year.
