Marvel Studios may be marketing Captain Marvel as its first female superhero, but longtime Marvel fans know that Black Widow has been kicking ass in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2010. Widow is set to get her own movie in Phase 4, and it looks like the film could be starting work sooner than expected.
According to The GWW, Black Widow is aiming for a production start on Feb. 28. The movie is said to be shooting in places like Croatia and Miami, with Scarlet Johansson reprising her role as Natasha Romanoff. Cate Shortland is also set to direct the film.
Though I’m all up for a Black Widow movie, I’m kind of suspicious of this announcement that the film will start production as soon as next month. I mean, we’ve barely got news on the movie, and you expect me to believe that it’s already close to start of production? Who else is in the cast? What’s the plotline? Months before production for Birds of Prey and we were getting news on who was going to be in the film already. All we’ve been hearing from Black Widow is rumors, and they’ve been very scarce mind you.
If anything, maybe Marvel is just keeping a tight lid on this film. After all, they want all the focus on the release of Captain Marvel, and it doesn’t help that most of the hype is still on Avengers: Endgame. Maybe we can get some official announcement before this supposed start of production begins.
No release date has been set for the Black Widow movie.
