While the character of Harley Quinn was usually defined by her relationship with the Joker, she also has a unique connection with another DC femme fatale, Poison Ivy. With us probably seeing more of Margot Robbie’s Harley down the line, Birds of Prey director Cathy Yan talks about who she wants Harley to team up with in the future.
Talking to The Wrap, Yan explains, “I would love to see Poison Ivy and I would certainly love to see the relationship between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy.”
In the comics, Harley and Ivy become partners in crime, and though they do bicker like usual odd pairings, it eventually evolved into a romantic relationship at some point. Even the second season of the animated Harley Quinn show is already teasing that a romance between Harley and Ivy is underway.
After Birds of Prey, rumor has actually been going around that DC wants to make a Gotham City Sirens movie which will have Harley working with a new roster of heroes including Batgirl and maybe even Black Canary. We don’t know how far down the line that film is, but Suicide Squad director David Ayer was teasing it, even before Birds of Prey even came out.
For now, Birds of Prey has had a rough release. Besides the COVID-19 cancellation in the box office, there have also been some very harsh critics of the film who have been bashing it for having an ‘agenda’. While the movie isn’t perfect, I thought it was still a fun romp, and definitely a watch for any woman who wants to feel like a comic book film is for them.
Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is now available on digital.
