Despite bashing from critics, Netflix’s The Witcher has come out to be a great hit, and it looks like the streaming service wants to give us more Geralt of Rivia. Just in, it’s been announced that an animated movie is actually in the works with the showrunners of the live-action Witcher involved as well.
Here’s the announcement for The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf:
The rumors are true, a new Witcher story is in the works! The anime film, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, will take us back to a new threat facing the Continent. Brought to you by the Witcher team @LHissrich and @BeauDeMayo, and Studio Mir the studio behind Legend of Korra.

What’s great is that Netflix has hired the Korean-based Studio Mir to handle animation. The studio had done some stunning work with Avatar: The Legend of Korra, and they’ve also worked on other series like The Boondocks, Voltron: Legendary Defender, Young Justice, and Netflix’s newest animated show, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts.
As for films, the studio had teamed up with Warner Bros for The Death of Superman. The Witcher will be their latest movie project.
Seeing that animated films take years to produce, it’s likely that this film will come out sometime in 2022. With the second season of The Witcher currently undergoing production, I think it’s possible that they could release the movie alongside it—maybe sometime late 2021. For now, all we can really do is guess.
Personally, I thought the only problem with The Witcher was the writing. The world is definitely interesting, and Henry Cavill make for a great Geralt. I just wish every episode didn’t have everyone saying ‘Destiny’ at least 5 times. You think they could hire the Game of Thrones writers for this?
