Though Rian Johnson has been hired to direct his own Star Wars trilogy for Lucasfilm, he’s first making some smaller films a lot closer to his past filmography. Just in, we have a new trailer for Knives Out, and it features a star-studded cast and some more plot.
When renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is mysteriously enlisted to investigate. From Harlan’s dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Harlan’s untimely death.
The movie has actually been getting a lot of buzz thanks to the Toronto International Film Festival, and a lot of people are calling it one of the best films to come out this year alongside Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit as well as the new Joker film starring Joaquin Phoenix.
If anything, it feels a lot like Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express, and even Daniel Craig’s inspector character seems to be a nod to Hercule Poirot in the sense that he has a thick accent and his name is Benoit Blanc.
With this film coming out, a lot of people are hoping that we’ll finally get a solid update on Johnson’s Star Wars . Then again, he has a lot of time to work on another project. Heck, Waititi is directing one more film before jumping on Thor: Love and Thunder.
Catch Knives Out when it hits theaters Nov. 27.
