Murder on the Orient Express is one of the best-known murder mystery stories of all time. The classic murder mystery novel by Agatha Christie, featuring the Belgian Detective, Hercule Poirot, was first published in 1934. Since then, it has been adapted for stage, radio, TV, and film. The last cinematic version was in 1974, starring Albert Finney as Poirot. Now, a new, fresh take on the tale is set for the big screen this November, featuring an all-star cast. Directed by and starring Kenneth Branagh as Poirot, Murder on the Orient Express features an ensemble cast of Johnny Depp, Judi Dench, Derek Jacobi, Michelle Pfeiffer, Daisy Ridley, Leslie Odom Jr., Penelope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Josh Gad, and Olivia Coleman. The first trailer for the movie has arrived online, and will play in front of Wonder Woman screenings in theaters.
The first poster for the movie has also arrived. As seen below, it clearly hints at the murderous intentions of one train passenger, with blood red steam coming from the train set against a darkening purple sky. Branagh directs from a screenplay by Michael Green, who has writing credits for American Gods and Logan to his name. Perhaps that could be an indicator of a rather graphic telling of the story in which 13 passengers find themselves as suspects in a murder mystery, while the Orient Express makes its way across Europe.
Branagh has strong pedigree in directing classic tales, whether it be Shakespeare, Terrence Rattigan, or even a classic fairytale such as Cinderella. He’s also renowned as a fine character actor, and with such a standout supporting cast, Murder on the Orient Express could be a huge hit. Branagh also stars in the upcoming Christopher Nolan movie, Dunkirk. After spending much of 2015-2016 working on his season at the Garrick Theater in London, it seems Branagh is set to return to the big screen in style.
Murder on the Orient Express will be released on November 10th.
