Toy Story is arguably one of the best animated franchises of all time. All three movies are not only critically acclaimed, but they also made a killing in the box-office. The third movie was initially intended to be the culmination of Andy’s adventure with Woody and Buzz.
It wasn’t until 2014 when a fourth movie was announced. With four years of development under its sleeves, fans can no longer wait for the release of Toy Story 4. According to Woody himself, it is well worth the anticipation.
In a recent interview with Chris Evans from The Chris Evans Breakfast Show, Tom Hanks aka Woody revealed that the production of Toy Story 4 is well underway. He believes that once it comes out it would be a film milestone:
“The way you record Toy Story, you’re in a room with the team that has created it. When I went in for my last day of recording, I wanted to have my back to them, because usually you’re facing him so you can look right up and you can talk about it. But I didn’t want to see them and I wanted to pretend they couldn’t see me. When I realized what they were going for, I realized, Oh, this is a moment in history” gushed Hanks.
Getting Toy Story 4 on the road wasn’t easy. In the aftermath of the Toy Story 3 release, Lee Unkrich, director of Toy Story 3, explained that there isn’t any plans for a fourth movie. While he is flattered, the studio has yet to greenlight the project:
“Well, we don’t have any plans for ‘Toy Story 4,’ Unkrich said. “I’m flattered that people ask about it — it reminds me how much people love the characters. (But) it was really important to me with this film that we not just create another sequel, that it not just be another appendage coming off of the other two.”
However, just like most fans, he isn’t completely closed to the possibility of a fourth film. In fact, he can see Woody and Buzz getting into all sorts of hijinks:
“I really always thought of this as the conclusion to one big story. I feel like we were trying to make one really great four-and-a-half-hour movie. And so, as a result, I really worked hard to bring an end to the story of Andy and his toys. Now, that being said, there may be opportunities for Woody and Buzz in the future, but we don’t have any plans for anything right now.”
In 2011, Tom Hanks revealed that a Toy Story 4 was happening. In an interview to promote Larry Crowne, he explained that as far as he knows Pixar is already working on another installment of the franchise:
“I think there will be. I think they are working on it right now. There you go!” exclaimed the actor.
It wasn’t until three years after when Pixar confirmed Toy Story 4. Currently, the animated feature is scheduled to be released on June 21, 2019.
