TMNT: The Last Ronin Getting a God of War-Inspired Game

Very few Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics manage to generate buzz online, but 2020’s The Last Ronin managed to turn a few heads. Though we won’t be getting a movie anytime soon, we are getting a game.

According to Polygon, Paramount Global gaming VP Doug Rosen has confirmed that there will be a game adaptation of The Last Ronin, and it will be taking inspiration from the new God of War games. We don’t have specifics, but just looking at God of War, we should probably expect a third-person action game set in a semi-open world with the Ronin getting upgrades as the game progresses.

When the story starts out for The Last Ronin, we follow a turtle in a black mask who uses all the weapons of the TMNT that we know. His identity is eventually revealed in the comic, but the setting of the world is a dark future where The Foot Clan has killed Splinter and the other three turtles.

While TMNT earned its popularity as a kids’ property, die-hard fans know that the original comic was supposed to be dark and gritty, with each turtle not even having distinct personalities. What they did have was the ninja skills, Splinter as their master, and Shredder and the Foot as their sworn enemies.

We don’t have a release date for The Last Ronin yet, but you can get your turtle fix when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem comes to cinemas on Aug. 4.
