Though a lot of people are expecting Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker to take center stage for Lucasfilm at the D23 Expo, we’re also looking at Jon Favreau’s upcoming The Mandalorian series for Disney+. SWCC 2019 gave attendees a trailer, and it looks like everyone else is getting something this weekend.
As confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, the first trailer for The Mandalorian is expected to drop on Friday, Aug. 23. This will certainly come as a relief to fans, seeing as they’ve been waiting months to get a look at the footage that was showcased last April.
With The Mandalorian expected to be one of the biggest shows on Disney+, I guess it’s understandable that Disney would want to be careful when it comes to marketing. After all, they wouldn’t want it to clash with the promos for The Rise of Skywalker.
With The Rise of Skywalker once again dealing with the balance of the Force, Favreau seeks to focus on the grittier side of Star Wars when it comes to The Mandalorian. He tells THR:
“I’m trying to evoke the aesthetics of not just the original trilogy but the first film. Not just the first film but the first act of the first film. What was it like on Tatooine? What was going on in that cantina? That has fascinated me since I was a child, and I love the idea of the darker, freakier side of Star Wars, the Mad Max aspect of Star Wars.”
Hopefully the trailer for The Mandalorian is everything we hoped for an more.
Catch The Mandalorian when it debuts on Disney+ which launches on Nov. 12.
