We don’t know when Netflix is going to release the next season of Love, Death + Robots, but Max has released a trailer for what might be the next best thing. Scavengers Reign is set to premiere in October, and we have a new trailer showcasing a surreal sci-fi mindscape.
The official description reads:
In this surreal sci-fi animated series from creators Joseph Bennett and Charles Huettner, the remaining crew of a damaged interstellar freighter ship find themselves stranded on a beautiful yet unforgiving alien planet – where they must survive long enough to escape or be rescued. But as the survivors struggle to locate their downed ship and missing crewmates, their new home reveals a hostile world allowed to thrive without human interference. Featuring lush, visually stunning animation, Scavengers Reign presents a wholly unique view of the consequences of unchecked hubris and humanity’s eternal desire to conquer the unknown.
The cast of the series includes Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development), Wunmi Mosaku (Loki), Sunita Mani (GLOW), and Bob Stephenson (Lady Bird).
Seeing that this is the first major series for Bennett and Huettner, there’s really no telling what exactly to expect, but based on what we see in the trailer, we should get some dazzling visuals and some interesting meditations on the human condition—which have been a unique topic that animation has been able to tackle recently.
If ghost and ghouls aren’t your thing for Halloween, maybe some sci-fi existential dread could be your cup of tea.
Watch out for Scavengers Reign when it premieres on Max this Oct. 19.
