Stranger Things Director Talks the ‘F*cking Awesome’ Prequel Play

Shawn Levy may be best known for his family-friendly action films like Free Guy and The Adam Project, but he’s also the director for one of Netflix’s biggest shows—Stranger Things.

Though the season is set to end with the fifth one, there is a play in the works called Stranger Things: The First Shadow, and it will follow a young Hopper and Joyce as things start getting weirder in Hawkins. We don’t know what the play will look like yet, but Levy is also involved, and he gives an update about the production.

Talking to The Wrap, Levy explains, “We’re busy on a bunch of fronts because we also have our ‘Stranger Things’ play opening in London imminently. It’s fabulous. It’s f–king awesome.” Levy continues, “It has exceeded all our expectations. We’re very excited to share that with the world… We are raring to go — our cast, our crew. Everyone not only needs to get back to work because we have many hundreds of crew members who have not been able to make a living since the strikes began, but we will be shooting very shortly after the actor’s strike ends.”

So far, the play has only been able to release a teaser, but we have yet to get any photos of the cast in full costume:

The play does come with a synopsis which promises to bring fans to Hawkins 1959:

Hawkins, 1959: a regular town with regular worries. Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister won’t take his radio show seriously and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and get the hell out of town. When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family finds that a fresh start isn’t so easy… and the shadows of the past have a very long reach.

Take note, Henry Creel a.k.a. Vecna, is only going to be 12-years-old in this show. We don’t know exactly what’s going to go on, but with the original show debuting with a mysterious young girl with powers, we could very well see the opposite of Eleven’s story play out with Creel arriving in Hawkins.

Then again, that’s just my guess.

No release date has been set for Stranger Things: The First Shadow yet, but some fans think it could open around the same time as the premiere for the fifth season of the show sometime next year.
