Sonic the Hedgehog Sequel Starts Production

Before theaters were shut down, one of the last movies to make a splash in the box office was Sonic the Hedgehog. A sequel had already been greenlit for the film, an director Jeff Fowler has confirmed that production has already started.

Check out his post:

We don’t know what the story for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 would be, but we should expect more of Sonic’s friends from the video games to join him like Tails and Knuckles. We should also see the return of the more game-accurate Dr. Robotnik played by Jim Carrey who, despite working on some more mature projects like Kidding, still has time to embrace his wacky clown image that made him so prevalent in the 90s.

With the first movie mostly taking place on Earth, it would be great if the sequel would delve into the more alien stages from the Sonic games. With Sonic and his friends already being fun characters in themselves, I would actually be fine with dropping all of the human cast members and just focusing on Sonic going on a world-hopping adventure; Jim Carrey can probably be the only photo-real human in this movie—like Michael Jordan in Space Jam.

We don’t know when we’re going to get our first preview for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 yet, but hopefully it will be better received than the first teaser that we got back in April 2019.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is set to come out on April 8, 2022.
