It looks like Justin Roiland is losing both his roles in Rick and Morty and Solar Opposites, and while fans are waiting for Rick and Morty to do their recast, Solar Opposites has pushed forward with replacing Roiland with Dan Stevens (Beauty and the Beast, Legion).
In a teaser for the next season, the show explains how Korvo suddenly has a British accent. Watch this:
The clip is pretty much meta when it comes to the recast, with them simply brushing the recasting of Roiland under the rug. While some shows have some elaborate canon story to explain the change in voice, it’s completely on brand for Solar Opposites to just have the drastic change come out of a very simple sci-fi mishap.
It’s also hilarious that they managed to address the concept of flashbacks having a different voice by throwing in some silly sci-fi jargon and not explaining further.
With Rick and Morty expected to find someone who sounds like Roiland’s characters, it’s neat that Solar Opposites managed to swing in a completely different direction to full comedic effect. Let’s hope fans will warm up to this new voice of Korvo moving forward.
Here’s the official description for Solar Opposites:
Solar Opposites centers around a team of four aliens who are evenly split on whether Earth is awful or awesome. Korvo (Dan Stevens) and Yumyulack (Sean Giambrone) only see the pollution, crass consumerism, and human frailty while Terry (Thomas Middleditch) and Jesse (Mary Mack) love TV, junk food and fun stuff. “Solar Opposites” is executive produced by Mike McMahan and Josh Bycel. The series is produced by 20th Television Animation.
Catch Solar Opposites when Season 4 premieres on Hulu on Aug. 14.
