Ron Howard Debunks Rumors about Solo Sequel in Development

With a lot of buzz going around about Donald Glover reprising Lando Calrissian for a Disney+ series, a lot of people were sure that a sequel to Solo: A Star Wars Story was already happening. Multiple sources have come out online to say that Solo 2 has finally happened, but sadly, that isn’t the case.

Ron Howard has confirmed in an interview with ComicBook that, “there’s no sequel planned now…” Despite this, Howard is fully aware of the #MakeSolo2Happen movement online, and has acknowledged, “It’s amazing to be a part of a Star Wars movie that seems to be a kind of underground hit, which is not what you’d expect, but that’s been an odd, strange journey for that movie.”

While Solo did underperform in the box office, a lot of people have acknowledged that this wasn’t because of the quality of the movie at all. If anything, Solo would have performed better if it came out in December, but it was said that Disney pushed Lucasfilm to release it in May—where it was sandwiched between box office giants Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2.

What’s worse, marketing for the movie had been watered down because Disney wanted to put all the focus on Thanos’ invasion. Had the movie come out in December, there would have been time to breath after the release of The Last Jedi, and Solo would have had less competition in the box office.

While Howard may have debunked Solo 2 for now, fans are still hopeful that it will get announced one day. The cast of characters was very solid, and as it stands, a lot of people think Solo is still way better than The Rise of Skywalker.

For now, we wait for the release of The Mandalorian 2 on Disney+ this October.
