Morbius: J.K. Simmons’ J.J. Jameson Rumored to Appear

A rumor had come out last week that J.K. Simmons would be reprising the role of the Daily Bugle’s J. Jonah Jameson for the upcoming Morbius film. While we only had DR Movie News as the source to rely on, we now have confirmation from a second party.

This comes from The GWW’s Thomas Polito:

Of course, this is still not confirmation that J.J. is appearing in Morbius, but it could be a sign that Sony is considering it. After Disney asked them to remove Tom Holland’s cameo from Venom, I’m sure they want to connect the “Spider-Verse” with Morbius now.

If J.J. were to make an appearance in the film, it sort of confirms the connection between the MCU and Sony’s SUMC.  Let’s just hope that Morbius will be up to the MCU standard, because after the critical bashing that Venom got, you can kind of understand why Marvel didn’t want any connections between the MCU and that film.

Hopefully with Sony and Disney striking a new deal, we can have more collaboration between the two studios. Then again, Sony proved themselves when they made Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Maybe Venom was the fluke, and Morbius will turn out pretty great. If you ask me, they should have just made some standalone films with different Spider-People and just have them team-up Avengers-style in one live-action Spider-Verse movie. Imagine how crazy fans would get if they announced a return from alternate Spider-Men like Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield?

For now, Morbius starring Jared Leto is set for a release on July 21, 2020.
