Believe it not Matt Damon’s run as the elusive spy Jason Bourne came to an end in 2007 with The Bourne Ultimatum. Bourne finally came to terms with who he was and where it all started for him in an action-packed thrill ride to close out Universal’s acclaimed film franchise. Well, until they decided to do another one with a new director staring Jeremy Renner, but let’s forget about that one.

Fast forward six years and he’s back in the role alongside director and franchise veteran Paul Greengrass with the imminent release of Jason Bourne. But before you boot-up the Bourne trilogy in preparation for the new movie, let none other than Bourne himself, Matt Damon, bring you up to speed in about 90 seconds. In a feature on the Universal Pictures YouTube channel (via We Got This Covered) Damon sums up the events of all three films, starting with 2002’s The Bourne Identity.

Now you don’t have to watch the Bourne trilogy to remember what has happened, so far. However, if you’ve yet to watch the film’s in their entirety we highly recommend you do so.

Jason Bourne’s synopsis:

“Matt Damon returns to his most iconic role in Jason Bourne. Paul Greengrass, the director of The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, once again joins Damon for the next chapter of Universal Pictures’ Bourne franchise, which finds the CIA’s most lethal former operative drawn out of the shadows.”

Jason Bourne is released on 29 July (US) and stars Matt Damon, Tommy Lee Jones, Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel, Julia Stiles, Riz Ahmed.
