Mark Hamill Worried about Star Wars Over-Saturation

Mark Hamill saw a triumphant return to the big screen with Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but he thinks that it’s too soon for Lucasfilm to come out with another Star Wars movie—what with Solo slated to release in May.

Talking to CinemaBlend, Hamill shared:

I will say they should pace themselves because you don’t want to over-saturate it. I said to Disney, ‘Really? Five months after we come outcomes [Solo: A Star Wars Story]? Can’t you at least wait until Christmas?’ But they’ve got things booked – they’re doing Marvel and their own movies, so that’s beyond my [purview.]

Originally, Lucasfilm had planned for Solo to mark the beginning of Star Wars movies coming out in the middle of the year instead of December, and Episode IX was originally slated to release in May of 2019. After Colin Trevorrow got fired, however, Lucasfilm had to delay the film, and it was pushed back to December 2019.

With Star Wars movies ending up as big events for the box office, it certainly does seem like five months is too quick for fans to start getting excited about Star Wars all over again. If it’s any sort of consolation, fans will have to wait for 19 months till they get to see Star Wars Episode IX hit theaters.

At least it wasn’t like before where we had to wait every three years for a Star Wars movie.

Solo: A Star Wars Story comes out May 25.
