While we don’t know when the next Mad Max movie is going to come out, director George Miller is going to proceed with the spinoff focused on Charlize Theron’s Furiosa. What’s great is, the movie finally has a release date, and it looks like it’s not that far off.
According to USA Today, Furiosa is going to be coming out on June 23, 2023 with Anya Taylor-Joy (Queen’s Gambit) set to star. We don’t really have a story yet, but the film will likely tackle the story of Furiosa and how she came to be in the service of Immortan Joe. With Hugh Keays-Byrne dying this year, it’s possible that Miller will have someone else take on the role, but it’s possible that the film would end before Furiosa ends up working for him.
Besides Taylor-Joy, the movie also has Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen) attached to the cast. And while this is a prequel, some are hoping that Theron herself also makes an appearance. Is it too much to ask for a Tom Hardy cameo as Max as well?
Despite the positive reception of Mad Max: Fury Road, the franchise had gotten into some legal troubles between Miller and the studio, and that’s why it’s been taking a while for a sequel to come out. Hopefully now things have been smoothed out, and we should get to see more of the Wasteland in the future.
