News had come out last week that Disney was working on a live-action Hercules, and fans have already been going around online wondering who should be part of the cast. Some have actually pitched that Josh Gad should play the part of Hercules’ trainer Phil, but Gad believes that only one actor is right for the role.

Here’s the post:

Just in case you didn’t know, DeVito was the original voice of Phil in the animated Hercules, and I have to say, it’s some spot on casting, seeing that the animated version was also based off of him. We don’t really know how the film plans to bring Phil to life, but I think it would be fun to see DeVito in prosthetics acting like a football coach in Ancient Greece.

Besides DeVito, I also think the movie bring back original cast member James Woods as Hades. He did some fantastic work with his villain, and I can’t imagine anyone else delivering that rapid-fire salesman talk besides Woods.

Other fancasts for the movie include Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth as Hercules, and Aria Grande for Megara. Personally, I think Chris Pratt would be perfect for the role, and the snarky Meg who sold her soul to Hades could be pulled off by Aubrey Plaza.

There was also a fancast going around for John Mulaney and Nick Kroll as Pain and Panic, and I couldn’t think of anyone better now.

No release date has been set for Hercules, but I have a feeling Disney wants this out by 2022.
