Community may have ended back in 2015, but the cult series still has a loyal fanbase that still wants the ‘movie’ part to be fulfilled from the hashtag #sixseasonsandamovie. Though chances may have looked grim the past few years, Joel McHale has given us some great news.

Talking to Variety, McHale comments that there has been more buzz surrounding the Community movie lately. He says:

“There’s way more rumblings than there used to be… Alison [Brie] tweeted that she got a phone call from Sony. They still haven’t called me, maybe Matthew Lillard will take over. But I would say there’s a better chance than there’s ever been. … For a long time I was like, ‘never gonna happen.’ And now I think with the renewed interest, and I know the cast is interested, that it could happen.”

We don’t know how much of the original team could be involved with the film, but for sure the movie would need the involvement of Dan Harmon; hopefully Harmon would find some time to work on this film amid his work on Rick and Morty. Fingers crossed we also get involvement from Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo.

As for actors, I think most of the main cast could come back, but I’m sure there will be a huge demand to bring back Donald Glover, who didn’t even get to make a guest appearance in the last season. If Community needed something in the film, it would definitely be Troy and Abed hijinks. And maybe it’s too big of an ask, but they should bring in Pierce Hawthorne (Chevy Chase) for one more appearance, even if it’s just some kind of hologram recording.

We don’t have any official news on the Community film, but at least we know things are looking good. Catch the show now on Netflix.
