It’s no surprise to hear this: Apparently, Matt Reeves is already shopping around for a new Batman to replace Ben Affleck, who has been distancing himself from the franchise in recent time. Though the hype from the Justice League tour continues, this news about Affleck’s potential departure from The Batman is still breaking, though not shocking.
However, Matt Reeves might have found an exciting new option to fill Affleck’s big shoes in Jake Gyllenhaal, the A-list actor who is certainly intense enough to pick up where Affleck is potentially leaving off. The news about Gyllenhaal broke when film critic and director John Campea mentioned it on his YouTube show.
“I’m hesitant to say anything, but I talked to a Hollywood producer yesterday who told me who Matt Reeves wants as Batman,” Campea said. He then went as far to call a source very close to the film to confirm this rumor. And yes, it should be said that this is still a rumor and nothing to get too carried away with, but rumors are fun.
Gyllenhaal was a previous consideration for Nolan’s Dark Night trilogy, which would have been interesting. It’s probably a good thing Christian Bale got the job in the end, since Jake’s sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal, playing Bruce Wayne’s love interest in The Dark Knight.
Overall, we’re excited to hear that Matt Reeves might get his breath of fresh air from the very talented Jake Gyllenhaal. While still just a rumor as we previously mentioned, we’re looking forward to announcements that might change the game for the beloved Batman and give Gyllenhaal his second chance to bring his take to an incredibly powerful character.
