J.J. Abrams Denies Superman Movie Rumors

Back in the early 2000s, J.J. Abrams was actually developing a Superman movie, but the project never took off the ground and we got Superman Returns. With Abrams set to close a big chapter on Star Wars, everyone is wondering what he’ll do next; specifically, everyone is wondering if he would like to take on Superman one more time.

Talking to The Rolling Stone, Abrams was asked if he would take on Superman, granted that his production company just made a massive deal with WarnerMedia, to which he replies, “We haven’t had those discussions yet.” It is worth noting that the site mentions that Abrams replies, ‘not so convincingly’ and that his office is littered with ‘a notable number of Superman toys.’

Knowing how Abrams likes to be secretive about his projects, I have no doubts that he’s considered taking over Superman at some point. I guess it would make sense that he wouldn’t want to share it for now because he’s busy promoting the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Or maybe he was just being honest and he really hasn’t had talks about Superman yet.

With Henry Cavill saying that he’s still onboard to play the Man of Steel, everyone has hopes that Abrams would eventually use him. I have no doubt that Abrams could make a more generally accepted Superman film. I mean, I love Man of Steel, but there are a vocal handful who didn’t really care for this ‘depressing’ Superman that Zack Snyder has given us.

For now, we wait for The Rise of Skywalker which comes out on Dec. 20.
