Marvel and DC may be dominating the superhero marketplace, but there’s still love out there for Mike Mignola’s Hellboy. Thanks to the Game Awards, we have the official first look at Hellboy Web of Wyrd, and it’s like a Mignola comic come to life.

The official description reads:
Hellboy Web of Wyrd is a roguelite action adventure with an original story created in partnership with Dark Horse Comics and creator Mike Mignola. When an agent goes missing, Hellboy investigates. Prepare for monstrous toe-to-toe brawling.
We don’t have that much gameplay, but I think we get a basic idea of this ‘brawling’ from the description with Hellboy beating down the monster werewolf. Though the description makes it sound like the whole game is all about melee combat, I’m hoping we get to have access to Hellboy’s arsenal of supernatural toys, like his revolver the Samaritan.
Besides the look at Hellboy, fans of the original comic have been wowed at the whole look of the trailer, with the visuals copying Mignola’s comic style with the dark shadows and hard lines. I’ll admit, it doesn’t look like a AAA game, but if it manages to pull off this look for the whole game, I think Hellboy fans will have something to be excited about before they announce the next movie—if we ever get one, that is.
As of now, no official release date has been set for Hellboy Web of Wyrd, but hopefully we get the release sometime next year.
