With Solo: A Star Wars Story coming out in a few months, a lot of fans are expecting Lucasfilm to at least announce the development of the next anthology movie. Everyone’s best guess is that it will be the spinoff movie centered on Obi-Wan Kenobi; and interestingly enough, it seems that Ewan McGregor has started preparing for the role.
There’s this new picture of him training, complete with Obi-Wan-esque facial hair:

Unlike actors like Daisy Ridley and Harrison Ford, McGregor is very open to his return for Star Wars, and if you think his last appearance in the franchise was in Revenge of the Sith, he actually had a small voice cameo in The Force Awakens (at the end of Rey’s Force vision).
Though the prequels are usually regarded by a lot of fans with disdain, a lot of appreciation went to Ewan McGregor’s portrayal of Obi-Wan. Somehow he has managed to take Alec Guinness’ older and wiser Ben Kenobi character and turn it into his own, occasionally sarcastic, Jedi Knight.
Is this for Kenobi? Only time will tell. Hopefully, we get an announcement close to the release of the first trailer for Solo. With the movie coming out in May, it would be smart to release it mid-January—just in time when the hype for The Last Jedi dies down.
The Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff has not been officially announced by Lucasfilm.
