Gotham City Sirens Allegedly Back in Development

After the release of Suicide Squad, word was going around that director David Ayer was working on a spinoff with Harley Quinn and the Gotham City Sirens. Word had it that the movie was put on hiatus, hence the release of Birds of Prey, but now rumors are going around that GCS is back in development.

This apparently comes from insider Daniel Richtman (via @GCSUpdate):

We don’t know who exactly is behind this movie, but I imagine that WB would want another woman director at the helm. Then again, I wouldn’t be opposed to having Ayer come back; but after the fiasco behind-the-scenes of his Suicide Squad, I don’t think he would be too keen to team-up with WB again. But who knows, this could be the very thing that gets #ReleaseTheAyerCut to happen.

With Harley Quinn going off on her own after Birds of Prey, it’s possible that the Gotham City Sirens could be her next ensemble film. Rumor was actually going around that GCS would be another entry in a Harley Quinn franchise, culminating in a clash with the Birds of Prey, but we haven’t gotten any updates on that, and things change in the process all the time.

Personally, I just want to meet the DCEU versions of Catwoman and Poison Ivy. While she was said to have been passed on the role for The Batman, I think Ana de Armas would be fantastic for the Catwoman of the DCEU; as for Ivy, everyone has been casting redheads like Jessica Chastain and Isla Fischer, but I think Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks would be a fantastic choice; it’s her voluptuous body that really gives off that ‘Mother Nature’ vibe that I think would be perfect for Ivy.

For now, we don’t have any official update on Gotham City Sirens, but Harley returns to the big screen with The Suicide Squad which comes out Aug. 6, 2021.
