We haven’t gotten any updates on the Birds of Prey ever since the movie dropped early 2020, but it seems that DC is ready to continue the story of one Dinah Lance via an upcoming series. Rumor has it that the upcoming Batgirl series on HBO Max will lead into a Black Canary solo movie. @RPK_ NEWS1 posts:
I hear Batgirl leads into Black canary solo

We should just take this news with a grain of salt for now, but it does seem like a logical direction. So far, the only bankable female DC character besides Wonder Woman is Harley Quinn, and with Batgirl expecting to introduce the next big DC heroine, it would make sense for WB to want to use the show to promote another character’s project.
While I do have my issues with Birds of Prey, Jurney Smollett’s Black Canary is actually a fun character to watch. With Harley being the crazy one in the spotlight, Canary came out as the ‘straight man’ of the group, providing a much-needed foil to the other colorful characters.
Though this is just a rumor, it would be great if we can see Leslie Grace’s Batgirl actually interacting with some other DC characters in the show. Fingers crossed we get an appearance from Ben Affleck as Batman. With some afraid they would be killing him off in the Flash movie, an appearance in Batgirl should ease some anxiety on the fans’ part.
No release date has been set for Batgirl or Black Canary, but fans are hopeful that we could get something by 2022.
