After the success of Wonder Woman, WB had decided to look more into the woman-led superhero films, putting movies like Batgirl and Supergirl into development. Christina Hodson (Bumblebee) has been hired to work on Barbara Gordon’s story, and she gives us a small update on her movie.

Talking to ComicBookMovie, Hodson explains:

“I’m loving writing it, I can say that, it’s a total joy to work on. I love the character. And everyday I’m finding new things to love and get excited about.”

With Barbara Gordon being such an established character in the DC Universe, a lot of people are wondering how the movie will treat her origin story. Hodson had told Collider that she would be using her own iteration on the character. She explains:

“I actually don’t think it is that established… A few people remember Alicia Silverstone doing that, but [Batman & Robin] was not one that is seminal. So, I do feel very free doing that one, and the studio is being super supportive, in letting me dream up whatever I want to dream up.”

For now, it doesn’t look like a Batgirl movie is going to come out anytime soon. For the next two years, the only films that have been confirmed to come are Shazam!, Joker, Birds of Prey, and Wonder Woman 1984. There’s also news that Matt Reeves’ script for The Batman has been finished, but development has been so slow that a lot of people are starting to wonder if the movie is ever really happening.

No release date has been set for Batgirl.
