After Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis hit theaters, Netflix is now gearing up to tell the story of one of Hollywood’s most timeless icons. Here’s a look at Blonde starring Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe:
Here’s the official description:
Ana de Armas is Marilyn Monroe in Blonde, only on Netflix 9/23. From director Andrew Dominik, and based on the bestselling novel by Joyce Carol Oates, Blonde boldly reimagines the complicated life of icon Marilyn Monroe. Blurring the lines of fact and fiction, the film artfully explores the tension between her public and private life.
While biopics are kind of expected to stay true to reality as they could, Joyce Carol Oates had fictionalized a lot of parts of her book Blonde, and it looks like the movie is going to be following suit. With over 700 pages, we should expect this movie to be a long one, but I imagine they could shorten it in order to keep things running smoothly.
Though I love Ana de Armas in films, I have never seen her try on a role where she is playing an actual historical figure. With so many other actresses being able to take on the mantle though, I’m interested to see how Armas will play the part. Though she’s mostly been playing second fiddle to more commanding men in films, I’m excited for her to receive the spotlight with Blonde.
Blonde comes to Netflix on September 23.
