GeekFeed.com Weekly Movie Roundup: Pirates, Miley Cyrus, and….More Twilight?

It’s been a busy week in the world of movie news, but a relatively quiet one at the box office unless you’re a fan of the Fast and Furious franchise, of course. For the week to come, Marvel is expected to dominate movie news, with the U.K. release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 less than a week away. Because of that, a lot of the news coming out this week has been in relation to the stars of the movie, who are busy doing press. Here’s a brief look at some of the stories you might have missed (SPOILERS AHEAD!):

Miley Cyrus is in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

We’re not even joking. It’s been revealed that Miley Cyrus lends her voice to Mainframe in Marvel’s newest movie release. While neither James Gunn nor Kevin Feige have confirmed this, a journalist at the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 press conference tweeted about it, and there’s been no denial. Apparently (SPOILER), one of the five post credits scenes shows the original Guardians of the Galaxy getting back together; Charlie-27 (Ving Rhames), Aleta Ogord (Michelle Yeoh), Stakar Ogord (Sylvester Stallone), Krugarr, and Mainframe. That’s Cyrus and Stallone sharing a scene together, something few could ever have predicted.

A Major Character is Back in Pirates of the Caribbean

The fifth Pirates movie: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, reunites Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush as Captains Jack Sparrow and Hector Barbossa, respectively. We already know that Orlando Bloom is also back, as Will Turner, and that Brenton Thwaites will be playing his son, Henry. Why Will is still serving as Davy Jones, no one really knows, but given that Elizabeth was pregnant when he went to the depths of the ocean, and Henry is now an adult, it’s fair to say that he’s served far more than his ten years penance. Rumors had circulated for some time that Keira Knightley would be back as Elizabeth Swann, but her involvement hadn’t been confirmed, until a Japanese trailer for Dead Men Tell No Tales was released.

There’s obviously no longer any doubt over Knightley’s involvement, but it seems a bit of a shame that Disney have spoiled that aspect of the movie well before its release. For those wanting to see the trailer, take a look, above.

Could Twilight Make a Comeback?

Twilight, Robert pattinson
Summit Entertainment

Really? Well, according to Robert Pattinson, that’s a possibility. While we all thought Pattinson wanted to get as far away from Twilight as possible, it seems he has thought about revisiting the vampire franchise that made him a household name. Speaking to Yahoo Movies while promoting his newest movie, The Lost City of Z, Pattinson said he would like to “subvert people’s expectations:”

“I mean, I’m always kind of curious. Anything where there’s a mass audience or seemingly an audience for it, I always like the idea of subverting people’s expectations. So there could be some radical way of doing it, which could be quite fun. It’s always difficult when there’s no source material. But, yeah, I’m always curious.”

So, are you Team Edward, or Team Jacob?

Newt Scamander has a Brother in Fantastic Beasts 2

Callum Turner Fantastic Beasts
BBC

Filming is set to begin this summer on Fantastic Beasts 2. We know that the movie will continue to focus on the rise of the dark wizard, Grindelwald (Johnny Depp), and Jude Law will make his first appearance as Dumbledore. Eddie Redmayne will also reprise his role of Magizoologist, Newt Scamander, and now he has a brother.

It’s been confirmed (via Variety) that Callum Turner joins the franchise as the second Scamander sibling. This will be Turner’s most major role to date, though he has also appeared in movies such as Victor Frankenstein, and Assassin’s Creed. According to Harry Potter Wiki, that brother is called Theseus, and is older than Newt. He is a powerful Auror and heavily involved in the hunt for Grindelwald. We can’t wait to see it all unfold.

Jared Leto Teases the Joker’s Return

As only Leto can. His Joker was one of the highlights of Suicide Squad, but sadly the character wasn’t given nearly enough to do. Fear not, though, because Leto is back. The actor took to Instagram to tease his character’s return, though it has yet to be officially confirmed. If it does happen, it’s anyone’s guess what DCEU movie he could show up in, though the most logical choice would be The Batman, of course. Deathstroke was set to be the main villain of  the piece, but with Matt Reeves now on board as director, the whole Batman script is reportedly being revamped. There’s room for more than one villain, though, surely.

And Finally….

We all know David Hasselhoff is a God among Men. We also know he’s cheesy, in the best possible way, and The Hoff fully embraces all that brings. A huge pop star in Germany, The Hoff now features on the soundtrack for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The track is called ‘Guardians Inferno’ and was written by James Gunn and Bryan Tyler. It’s really quite something.
