Dune: Part Two may have been delayed to March, but WB is still trying to get everyone excited for the rise of Paul Atreides. Possibly jumping in on the hype surrounding the release of Wonka, we have a new trailer for the next Dune film, and it showcases all of the sci-fi action you can expect from a planet filled with giant sand worms.
The second movie effectively ends the story of the first Dune from author Frank Herbert, but director Denis Villeneuve is said to be planning an entire Dune trilogy with a third film following the rise of the tyrant Paul Atreides.
After all, the entire point of Dune is considered to be a critique on the notion of stories with ‘chosen ones’ and ‘destiny’; and Paul is supposed to evolve from the prince to the face of a new intergalactic war—the very thing he was panicking about when he got a hit of spice in the first movie.
We don’t know if a third movie will be greenlit, but fingers crossed that Dune: Part Two will manage to bring in an audience post-pandemic.
“Dune: Part Two” will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a path of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.
Dune: Part Two is set to release in theaters on March 1.
