Though the earlier trailers for the series had been very sparing with the reveals, we now have a new This Season preview for the series teasing what arcs Deborah (Jean Smart) and Ava (Hannah Einbinder) could be going through this year. Check this out:

Though the second season of the show ended with Deborah firing Ava in order for her to find her own way in the industry, the third season quickly catches us up a year after their parting of ways with Deborah being bigger than ever thanks to the special she developed with Ava; and Ava writing for a prestigious show.

By the end of the second episode though, we see Ava coming back under the roof of Deborah in order to help her develop her own talk show—which she isn’t even sure she’s going to get.

Thanks to the trailer though, we can see that Deborah could be getting a new love interest in the form of another rich elderly gentleman. We can also see that Deborah’s daughter DJ is going to be participating in a roast of her mother, and she’ll be up on her usual shenanigans.

It’s also been teased that Christina Hendricks is going to be seducing Ava at some point, which should be problematic for her relationship with fictional DC star Ruby Rojas (Lorenzo Izzo).

Deborah and Ava Find Each Other Again in Trailer for Hacks Season 3 https://www.geekfeed.com/deborah-and-ava-in-trailer-for-hacks-season-3/ Wed, 17 Apr 2024 16:17:57 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81996 The second season of HBO’s Hacks ended with Deborah firing Ava to allow her to find her own voice out of her shadow, and while it does seem like it does end on a high note, we should expect things not to be as rosy as they turn out to be.

The third season is set to come back this May, and we have our first trailer. Check this out:

The synopsis for the season reads:

“A year after parting, Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) is riding high off the success of her standup special while Ava (Hannah Einbinder) pursues new opportunities back in Los Angeles.”

Though Deborah was kind of a washed out comic when we first meet her in Hacks, we spend the second season with her trying to get into new material thanks to the pushing of Ava.

The series isn’t really shy about how imperfect the relationship of the two is. While Ava does have fierce appreciation for Deborah’s trailblazing and natural talent, she has no qualms about calling out how old-fashioned and not politically correct her material could be.

On the other hand, Deborah has a lot to teach Ava, but she can get so incredibly petty; and top that off with her endless amount of money and she can be downright cruel to the underdog that is Ava.

Personally, I’m just so happy to see the show back. The characters and drama is fantastic, and while I thought Season 2 could have been the perfect sendoff, I’m wondering where we could see the girls again in Season 3.

Hacks returns to Max on May 2.

Deborah and Ava are Back in Teaser for Hacks Season 2 https://www.geekfeed.com/deborah-and-ava-are-back-in-teaser-for-hacks-season-2/ Mon, 18 Apr 2022 14:18:50 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=64877 HBO’s Hacks had received nothing but praise when it premiered last year, and now the fabulous Deborah Vance and her entitled assistant are set to come back this May.

Just in, we have the teaser for the second season of Hacks. Check it out:

We don’t really have a synopsis for the series, but the show will likely follow the thread of the finale. While Deborah (Jean Smart) had made a name for herself being a legendary Vegas comedian, her assistant Ava (Hannah Einbinder) had helped her realize that she has to make new material if she’s going to stay relevant to audiences.

Though Deborah’s new material didn’t quite land with her last show, the had ended with her wanting to go on the road and refine her new act. While there is certainly some new respect between the two leads, we can still expect some of that animosity paired with those razor sharp comebacks.

After some terrific work on Watchmen and Mare of Easttown, Smart just continues to amaze putting down one good performance after another. While Ava is also a great character in her own right, it’s really Deborah that manages to keep herself captivating with her style and comic timing.

With this next season, I’m hoping that we get more out of Ava’s character, but it would be great if we could just see the two comediennes just grow and make each other better. While Deborah may be the star, I’m willing to watch Ava take the spotlight someday soon.

Catch Hacks when it returns to HBO Max on May 12.
