Now Universal is ready to come back to the land of Oz with an adaptation of the hit musical Wicked, and we have our first look thanks to the Superbowl.

Check out Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) in the new teaser:

Here’s the official description:

Wicked, the untold story of the witches of Oz, stars Emmy, Grammy and Tony winning powerhouse Cynthia Erivo (Harriet, Broadway’s The Color Purple) as Elphaba, a young woman, misunderstood because of her unusual green skin, who has yet to discover her true power, and Grammy-winning, multi-platinum recording artist and global superstar Ariana Grande as Glinda, a popular young woman, gilded by privilege and ambition, who has yet to discover her true heart.

The two meet as students at Shiz University in the fantastical Land of Oz and forge an unlikely but profound friendship. Following an encounter with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads and their lives take very different paths. Glinda’s unflinching desire for popularity sees her seduced by power, while Elphaba’s determination to remain true to herself, and to those around her, will have unexpected and shocking consequences on her future. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfill their destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

The film also stars Oscar® winner Michelle Yeoh as Shiz University’s regal headmistress Madame Morrible; Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton, Fellow Travelers) as Fiyero, a roguish and carefree prince; Tony nominee Ethan Slater (Broadway’s Spongebob Squarepants, Fosse/Verdon) as Boq, an altruistic Munchkin student; Marissa Bode in her feature-film debut as Nessarose, Elphaba’s favored sister; and pop culture icon Jeff Goldblum as the legendary Wizard of Oz.

The movie is directed by Jon M. Chu who is best known for his work with In the Heights; he’s also the director behind Crazy Rich Asians—which kind of explains how Michelle Yeoh is in the film.

Though I thought that 2013’s Oz reboot had an interesting angle, it never did get the same popularity that Wicked managed to have, and I’m sure a lot of audience members who haven’t seen the musical are excited to see what all the fuss is about.

It’s going to be exciting to watch Erivo and Grande be at the heart of the movie, but Wicked also managed to do some dynamite casting with Jeff Goldblum who I’m sure is going to add that zany nuance to a character like the Wizard.

Wicked is set to release in theaters on Nov. 27.

Wish Upon a Star in New Trailer for Pinocchio https://www.geekfeed.com/wish-upon-a-star-in-new-trailer-for-pinocchio/ Mon, 29 Aug 2022 17:21:27 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=70762 Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio may be coming out this December, but Disney is going to be releasing their live-action adaptation of the animated movie next month. Just in, we have a new trailer that finally gives us a look at Pinocchio the puppet as well as the other characters.

Check tte trailer for Pinocchio out here:

Besides Pinocchio, the movie is also bringing back several other characters from the animated film like the Fox and the Cat. Of course, there’s also the evil puppeteer Stromboli. They even brought back Geppetto’s pets like Figaro the cat and Cleo the goldfish.

Speaking of Geppetto, Tom Hanks looks absolutely great in costume, and he feels very much like the Geppetto we got in the animated version. I guess when you have Robert Zemeckis at the helm, he’s definitely going to find a way to put Hanks in the movie—then again, he seems pretty perfect for the part. I mean, if he can play modern-day TV dad Mr. Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, he can play one of the more recognizable fantasy dads of all time.

Academy Award® winner Robert Zemeckis directs this live action retelling of the beloved tale of a wooden puppet who embarks on a thrilling adventure to become a real boy. Tom Hanks stars as Geppetto, the wood carver who builds and treats Pinocchio (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) as if he were his own son. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Jiminy Cricket, who serves as Pinocchio’s guide as well as his “conscience”; Academy Award® nominee Cynthia Erivo is the Blue Fairy; Keegan-Michael Key is “Honest” John; Academy Award® nominee Lorraine Bracco is Sofia the Seagull, a new character, and Luke Evans is The Coachman. Also in the cast are Kyanne Lamaya as Fabiana and Jaquita Ta’Le as her marionette Sabina, Giuseppe Battiston as Stromboli and Lewin Lloyd as Lampwick.

Pinocchio comes to Disney+ on Sept. 8.

A new trailer just dropped for the film, and it gives us a look at some classic characters like Geppetto (Tom Hanks), Jiminy Cricket (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), and the Blue Fairy (Cynthia Ervo).

For a trailer about Pinocchio, we actually see only very little of the character in the trailer. If anything, they’re staying faithful to the design of the puppet from the original film, and it’s going to be exciting to see how he comes to life on the big screen.

Admittedly, though the live-action Disney remakes have been successes at the box office, they have been bombs when it comes to critics. We don’t know how Pinocchio will get treated (especially since it’s going straight to streaming), but with Zemeckis’ and Hanks’ track record over the decades, I think we could be in for something special.

Pinocchio is set to come out straight to Disney+ on Sept. 8.
