Paint: Owen Wilson is a Bob Ross-Type in New Trailer

Owen Wilson may have jumped onto the Marvel Studios bandwagon with Loki, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be starring in some more artsy films. Just in, we have a new trailer for Paint, and it has Wilson playing a Bob Ross-type going through some kind of existential crisis.

Check this out:

Here’s the official description:

Owen Wilson stars as Carl Nargle, Vermont’s #1 public TV painter who is convinced he has it all: a signature perm, custom van, and fans hanging on his every stroke… until a younger, better artist steals everything (and everyone) Carl loves.

While Wilson’s character looks pretty inspired by TV painter Bob Ross, it looks like they’ve decided to make his story original so as to focus more on the artsy side of the hobby.

If you follow the actual story of what happened to Bob Ross, you’ll know that his personal life got kind of messy, especially with the people who were trying to capitalize on how popular The Joy of Painting got; and there was also some mess about other similar shows coming out as well. There’s actually a Netflix documentary for it called Bob Ross: Happy Accidents, Betrayal & Greed.

Going back to Wilson though, Paint looks like an interesting artist introspective. And while we don’t know when his next collaboration with Wes Anderson will be, this seems like a good placeholder for now.

Paint is set to hit theaters on April 7.
