The 2024 Awards season is in full swing, and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie is coming at it with 8 nominations for the Academy Awards. One problem though is that the Academy is currently getting flak for two key figures who have not gotten nominations for the movie.
As it turns out, Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig have not been nominated for Best Actress or Best Director; even with the movie getting a Best Picture nomination. What the movie does have is two nominations for Best Original Song, Best Achievement in Production Design, Best Achievement in Costume Design, and Best Supporting Actress/Actor with America Ferrera and Ryan Gosling; Gerwig did get a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay which she shares with co-writer Noah Baumbach.
The internet is not having the snub, and even Gosling has managed to release a statement talking about the Academy passing on Gerwig and Robbie. Here’s the post:

“There is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Geta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally-celebrated film… To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement,” says Gosling.
Despite expressing his disappointment for the snub, Gosling did go out to congratulate everyone else who got their nominations. He continues, “I am so happy for America Ferrera and the other incredible artists who contributes their talents to making this such a groundbreaking film.”
It’s probably too late for the Oscars to do anything about it, but so far, Robbie and Gerwig are backed up by the internet; if anything, it does seem that everyone is starting to get over these awards, and even if the two got snubbed, there’ll always be a chance to collaborate in the future and try again.
The 2024 Academy Awards is set to broadcast on March 11.
