Netflix’s Live-Action Avatar: The Last Airbender Gets Renewed for 2 More Seasons

Regardless of what some hardcore Avatar: The Last Airbender fans will tell you online, Netflix’s live-action adaptation has come out to be a huge hit; and a lot of people are happy to meet this new version of Team Avatar.

It’s barely been a month since the series released, but it looks like Netflix is already pretty confident moving forward. They’ve announced that they’ve officially greenlit the next two seasons of the show. Here’s the official post:

There’s also a promo announcement with the main cast and Fire Lord Daniel Dae Kim announcing to them that they would be kept on for another few years. Check this out:

Fans of the original will know that the series ran for three seasons. With the first season focusing on Aang learning to master Water, Season 2 (or rather Book 2) will have him covering Earth, and finally Fire with Season 3.

Admittedly, the series did have to compress and cut several stories to squeeze everything into the first season, so it’s going to be interesting to see what makes the cut in the following seasons. We know that there are definitely cinematic moments that have to be in the show, but it does feel like the series has forgotten to keep some core character moments.

I’m specifically not a fan of how they made Sokka less sexist around the Kiyoshi warriors; and how they didn’t have Katara actually learn under Master Pakku to give her a ‘girl power’ arc for the season. Also, Aang and the characters barely have fun with the show just having them constantly repeat what their goal is verbally.

That’s my take, at least.

No release date has been set for ATLA Season 2, but you can check out the first season now streaming on Netflix.
