Scarlett Johansson Releases Statement After Her Voice was Copied for ChatGPT

It’s no mystery that AI has been slowly finding its way into the “art” scene recently with AI being used to copy art style, voices, and even faces.

What’s interesting is, Scarlett Johansson, who had famously voiced an AI in her, has released a statement concerning OpenAI who has apparently copied her voice for ChatGPT without her permission. Check this out:

As it turns out, Sam Altman had approached Johansson last September to get her permission to use her voice for AI, which she refused. But even after she did, Altman still decided to add a voice that was considerably similar to Johansson and named it “Sky”.

While some can say that this could be coinsidental, Altman had also tweeted a single word “her” which attributed to the title of the movie Johansson was starring in where she played an AI voice.

With AI steadily advancing and being used by corporate figures as a means to replace actual artists, the discussion for the use of AI has been highly debated. Though it’s ideal that we keep using actual people to develop art, some think that AI is innevitable and should just find a way to regulate it rather than completely banning its use.

For now, “Sky” has been take down by Open AI, but Johansson adds to her statement:

In a time when we are all grappling with deepfakes and the protection of our own likeness, our own work, our own identities, I believe these are questions that deserve absolute clarity. I look forward to resolution in the form of transparency and the passage of appropriate legislation to help ensure that individual rights are protected.
