Gillian Anderson Joins the Cast of TRON 3

Gillian Anderson Joins the Cast of TRON 3

After years in development hell, the third TRON movie is finally undergoing production, and we have a cast that includes the likes of Jared Leto, Cameron Monaghan, Evan Peters, and Greta Lee.

What’s interesting is, one more actress has joined the cast of the film, but her role is yet to be revealed.

As per Deadline, Gillian Anderson (X-Files, Sex Education, Hannibal) has joined the cast of TRON: Ares. We don’t have much details on who Anderson is going to be playing in the movie, but with her joining the cast at this stage, I imagine that she’s going to be providing the voice of the new Master Control Program—one of the main villains in the original TRON.

In TRON: Legacy, there was no trace of Master Control in the Grid, but we did have a cameo of one Edward Dillinger played by Cillian Murphy. He was expected to have a larger role in the sequel that never happened, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney finally decided to pull on that thread with Ares and have a new Dillinger cooperating with a new version of Master Control.

Then again, this is just speculation on my part. I would much rather have Anderson in full costume as a digital kook like Michael Sheen’s Zuse, but I wouldn’t mind just hearing her voice a menacing red hourglass with a silly face like the first movie.

No release date has been set for TRON: Ares, but Disney is said to be aiming for a 2025 release.
