Adam Sandler Teams Up with Chernobyl Director In First Trailer for Spaceman

Adam Sandler is kind of an odd duck with his projects in that he can make commercial comedy films and arthouse movies at the drop of a hat; and after the family-friendly movie that was Leo, he’s swinging back over to the auteur side with a film called Spaceman.

The movie is set to hit Netflix this March, and we have our first trailer starring Sandler, Carey Mulligan, and Paul Dano. Check this out:

The official description for the movie reads:

Six months into a solitary research mission to the edge of the solar system, an astronaut, Jakub (Adam Sandler), realizes that the marriage he left behind might not be waiting for him when he returns to Earth. Desperate to fix things with his wife, Lenka (Carey Mulligan), he is helped by a mysterious creature from the beginning of time he finds hiding in the bowels of his ship. Hanuš (voiced by Paul Dano) works with Jakub to make sense of what went wrong before it is too late.

Besides Sandler, the movie also stars Kunal Nayar, Lena Olin, and Isabella Rosellini. The movie is also directed by Johan Renck who had worked on HBO’s Chernobyl; with a script based on the novel Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfar.

Like I said, Sandler is a bit of conundrum when it comes to the projects that he’s working on, but whenever he does decide to do something artsy, audiences can always bet that it would be good; just look at his collaborations with the Noah Baumbach (The Meyerowitz Stories) and the Safdie Brothers (Uncut Gems).

Spaceman lands on Netflix this coming March 1.
