Zombieland was a hit when it came out back in 2009, and just recently did we get news that the movie is getting a sequel. Director Ruben Fleischer is currently working on the promotion of Venom for Sony, but he gives us a good update on the start of filming for the sequel.
Talking to Fandango, Fleischer says:
“I’m thrilled. We’re already actually starting Zombieland. I’ve been scouting and storyboarding and getting it going, and to get to work with that cast again is just an absolute dream come true. It’s been really exciting starting to think about that movie, and to get to work with Emma, Jesse, Woody and Abigail once again is truly a dream come true. Yeah, we’re just at the very early stages, but we have an amazing script, and we’re going to start shooting in Georgia in January.”
I absolutely love that everyone in the main cast is making a return since it was their chemistry that completely sold the first movie. Rumor has it that the story will involve Little Rock eloping with some lover, but until we get anything official, you should just take that premise with a grain of salt.
Besides Fleischer, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have also come back to provide the script for Zombieland 2. I think it’s cool that Reese and Wernick were also the writers behind the Deadpool films. With Zombieland, you have a director from Marvel Sony (SUMC) working with writers for Marvel Fox— none of which have actually worked with Marvel Studios… yet.
Though I thought the first Zombieland was already solid enough, I would like to see the characters come together onscreen again. Hopefully the script won’t disappoint.
Zombieland 2 is slated for a release on Oct. 11, 2019.
